Recent Purchases #2
I picked up a few more titles I had wanted for a while. I'm paranoid when it comes to rare titles that I if dont get them they will become really expensive. Take the Tales games, Namco don't seem to print many of them for some reason and some of the games have become quite hard to find, Tales of Symphonia for example sells for anywhere between £35-60. There are a few Gamecube games that are quite rare now, ToS, Skies of Arcadia, Twilight Princess, and quite a few others. Anyway, here's some of the stuff I picked up~Its a bit of an action rpg fest!
Baroque (Wii)
I had my eye on this for a while, but having heard good things and (mostly) bad things about the game, I wanted to find out for myself what this is like. It is a port of the Sega Saturn roguelike, which also appeared on the Playstation and PS2. A lot of the criticism seems to focus on how hard the game is. Having not played many roguelikes I'm not entirely sure if I will like it, but I definitely like the look of the style of the game. Its nice and twisted =p
Anyway, I got it for relatively cheap (£7) so even if I dont like it, my pocket isnt hurting TOO much I guess.
The World Ends With You (DS)
I'm really liking this one, its quite hard to find in shops here from what I can tell. I got it over ebay for around £12 or so. It got a lot of game of the year and other rewards when it came out a few years ago and some people say it is among the best DS games.
So far I've been really impressed with the style and hope to put more time into the story-its quite interesting, even if the main character is a bit of a douche! He seems like one of those cliched pseudo-antiheroes.
Tales of Eternia (PSP)
Its got some of the ugliest cover art I've seen recently, but I'd heard it was actually quite a good game and I'd seen it a while back in a second hand pawn shop, £11.95 or so was around about what it went for on ebay. It didnt get released in the US which adds to its value and it is quite a hard to find game, so I finally caved in and got it one day, cos I knew it wasnt gonna get put down in price, even if they werent going to sell it to many other people at that price...I should stick to actual game shops...
Anyway, its an action rpg on the psp, similar to many of the other Tales games. The character design doesnt look particularly nice, but I hope I like this one.
Tales of Vesperia (360)
I was saying that I was paranoid about games going up in price too much, which was mainly referring to this one. Its already worth about £35-40 or more and it didnt even come out that long ago here.
I quite enjoyed what I played of Tales of Symphonia (even though I got stuck and didnt complete it) and I've had my eye on this one for ages!
I more or less bit the bullet on this one, shelling out £30 for it from ebay. I've got a feeling the rarity of this one will make it worth quite a bit more than that in years to come. So I picked it up now to shut my paranoid self up.
It looks amazing on an HD screen and I cant wait to play it. I'll really need to play some of these games because my unfinished pile is growing and a lot of them i wont get around to playing for a while... T_T
There are a few titles though, that I must have! heheh, here's some of those that I will more than likely pick up at some point:
A Witch's Tale, for the DS-I just kind of like the style of this one, its cute but got a dark edge to it. Quite cool, even though its apparantely very easy. Thats not gonna dissuade me though, I played Magical Starsign which was very easy and I still enjoyed it. I kinda want to get FFIX as it would fill that gap in my Final Fantasy collection. I've been told I would like it, I probably will-it has Vivi! :3
Now Playing - "That lobster just got served! With cheese biscuits and mashed potatoes!"
Uni has been keeping me busy, which kinda sucks, anyways here is what I've been playing when I get the chance.
I picked this up recently and started playing it, I'm only a few hours in at the start of the game, but so far I've been really impressed. I love the style of the game, which takes a lot of aspects of japanese culture-fashion, mobile phones, music and throws them together to create a really rich game world set in the Shibuya district of Tokyo.
The combat system is very unusual from what I can tell so far. Its an action rpg, so it is quite fast, and the combat takes place on both of the DS's screens simultaneously. You control the main character Neku who looks strangely like Sora from Kingdom Hearts on the touch screen and Shiki on the top screen with the Dpad buttons. The character you arent controlling is controlled by the computer AI, but you can tinker with the options for that.
So far, I'm impressed with this, check it out if you can!
Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA)
Yeah, I'm still playing this, but I'm much further now-more than 30 hours into it and I might be getting near the end of the game soon. Its definitely becoming harder, some of the enemies and bosses are getting a bit more challenging. There have been quite a few funny moments, some cliched moments and some bits I quite like, the Forest of Moore for some reason, I quite liked. Its also been supplying me with some awesome funny quotes for the Now Playing titles =p It is kinda funny at times, but I do wish it was a bit more serious at times. Still, that would make it even more like the other FF games, which wouldn't necessarily be a good thing. I guess it's tongue-in-cheek style sets it apart from the others. Hopefully I can finish this one soon and give some more thoughts about it.
Kinda lots of generic characters in this game though..Bartz and Exdeath don't really seem to jump out at me so far...
Mwahahaha!
I've also been playing a little bit more Shadow of the Colossus, but the portable games are taking up more of my time since I always seem to be at uni and they are to hand most of the time.
Ok, that was kinda sucky, but I might do a Game of the Month for October (as its almost over) and I'll try to post more to make it a bit more interesting on the blog =D
