Chernobyl
I have compiled some interesting links which tell different stories about Chernobyl and life in Pripyat and the surrounding area. Terrifying, fascinating and beautiful, it is a place I hope to visit one day.
So this post was very different to what I normally post on the blog, but it is something I am so fascinated in, with my interest in science. It is basically just a tribute and post remembering the hardships and struggles people endured and still do to this day.

My computer is no longer blow'd up...
Gah...my laptop is still broken and its not even put in the shop yet..Its either just that I was bringing into uni without a proper laptop back and it got damaged, or more likely, the fact that it got tea spilt over it in uni...
Its got some kind of hardware problem, I think the RAM like last time, but not sure..
1st May: Yay! I got my laptop back a few days ago and it was indeed a problem with the RAM again. It cost me £85 to get a new stick put in now, and its working fine. I was a bit worried at first because it actually smelled of burning plastic, but that was probably just some initial crap inside, as it doesnt do that so much now.
Hopefully I'll be posting some more now! I've got my final exam for first year on the 4th of May..,that doesn't seem so far away now :'(

Stupid temperature...
But today it was fairly mild, just ridiculously wet for the most of the day. So I can understand that they would have the heating on in the uni buildings, but man...they kinda overdid it. It was roasting pretty much everywhere I went. I was actually sweating at times... ;_; I even felt like I was gonna pass out and fall asleep later on in the library. I had to go upstairs to find a cooler floor of the library to work in.
Now, I'm not exactly saying that they should leave the heating off or pump cool air through the air conditioning, but I hate it when its like this..it makes it so hard to keep alert...a few other people I was talking to said they were falling asleep too.
I don't even know why I'm posting this here..maybe just venting some steam or something. I like having a blog for this kind of outpouring of my mind.
What it looked like in my uni lecture theatres:

Perhaps minus the sun...

New Xbox! =D
I got my Xbox 360 fixed finally! Hopefully no more Red Rings for moi! T_T
Dunno if I'll even have enough time to play it though, with uni and all. Think I'll check and see if my Gold subscription is still on, might jump online for a bit. =p
Rather randomly, I got to Radiant Garden in Birth by Sleep. Its pretty cool how you get to see what its like before the main 2 games when it is known as Hollow Bastion. I always liked that area, its nicely designed and has really cool music, which they have kept a similar track for in BBS. Here's 3 of them, Radiant Garden and Hollow Bastion songs from the OSTs:

Awesome! =D

Yeah! If I ever get an office in the forseeable future, I must get this put on the door!
Also, Wtf is with this? Link
Mana Potions...
Hehehe, I found out about these the other week from an article on lusipurr.com I think, and for some strange reason decided to order some off ebay. I didn't exactly realise that the price i was paying was for 3, and not 6 (the ebay auction had 6 in the picture) so it was kinda disappointing, plus the bottles are tiny, but in a strange geeky way, they are quite awesome.
I can imagine playing games all night and drinking those to "bump" up my mana
Or not really, lol who the hell thought of these?
[Also, I'm working on the link list in the sidebar, its a bit of a work in progress]

Zombies! OMG!

Hehehe I found this rather awesome publication while looking for some revision stuff online.
http://www.mathstat.uottawa.ca/~rsmith/Zombies.pdf
I wonder if they were bored or something...I can't imagine writing an article like that and expecting anyone to take it seriously, or even expecting it to avoid ridicule. It is awesome though! =D

Yahoo Answers - "How is babby formed?"
I'm starting to lose some hope in humanity...at the same time as falling on the floor and crying from laughing too much.
Some of these must be jokes, there is surely no way people can be THIS stupid. Right?

Some ranting, ramblings and impressions.
Also, I tried to sign into my inbox tray for Edinburgh Uni today to check up on and sort out anything I need to do before starting up in September for my first year. The mailbox I had before and could check before was nowhere to be seen. It used to be on the page I was on only now it has apparantely dissapeared in the last few months. Perhaps its me being stupid and not noticing it (which I doubt, cos I combed the whole place), perhaps its just that they have moved it and told noone or maybe they just got rid of the whole system and didn't replace it ( they did say it was experimental and a test, but that seems just retarded.) All I know, is the site and the organisation seems pretty crap. For a university, you'd think they have well orgamanised and easy to use shiz. Obviously not.
My speakers have also been making a crackling, popping and screeching noise recently..kind of annoying to be honest. I hope they aren't on the way to destruction
Given the laptop's and internet's hate of me recently..This T-Shirt would be fitting. Tis pretty cool hehe...lol

To cool off and keep the encroaching boredom away, I played some more of the games I'm working on. I played a little bit of Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga, but there seems to be a small but ever-present chance that even random enemies are going to wipe the floor with you and make you their bitches.
So after losing a good 20 mins or so of progress, I turned it off. That game is good, but at times its too hard. I mean, I come up against a party of 3 Mothman enemies in the Samsara tunnels about 24 hrs in (for me at least,) These guys are not usually hard, they don't look particulary dangerous from their appearance or abilities. When you come up against 2 of them, they are pretty easy in fact, but something seems to be written in there for a party of 3 of them or maybe its just me being unlucky, I don't know. They keep using abilities like Mazionga and similar stuff, which when it hits all my guys, including the exploit of Argilla's weakness, its pretty damaging and they get an extra half turn counter, so the next one does it, or the one that targets one character and usually hits Argilla, so another turn counter gets added, etc etc, they get a couple extra actions per turn. That doesn't sound like a lot, but when they get lucky, they can wipe me out pretty easy. Screw that....I will beat the game some day though...even if I do have to deal with the unpredictable difficulty and battle system which I am beginning to like less and less. . . Anyway, enough nonsensical ramblings on DDS. Chances are you guys didn't understand half of that wall of text.
So for something a bit easier, I put on Star Ocean: Second Evolution on the PSP. I liked the first one and am about 12 or so hours through the 2nd. So far I'd say the voice acting is pretty weak, even laughable in places (ie. Ashton's dragons) I'm enjoying the game even if the pacing seems a bit strange, I'm kind of able to rush through the game quite fast, gaining levels and skills pretty quickly. The initial small difficulty spikes as you go to a new area are one thing that at times frustrates me and aside from boss battles, thats really the only thing that will lead to a game over as far as I can tell. A lot of the stuff in this game is cliched and it isn't the best game in the world, however its definitely better than a lot of other games out there, especially when you consider the fact that this is PSX-era ported RPG. Saying that, it isn't very polished or improved and feels a bit dated.
There is a lot in the game I like, the character design-the new portraits and anime cutscenes by Production I.G. look for the most part very nice. The character interaction and dialogue that you can get is one thing I appreciate as its not really done the same in most other rpgs. I'm trying to make more of the private actions you can do in this one. These basically involve you pressing square outside a town in order for you to split up your party in the town. You can then talk to townspeople and your party members with your main character, opening up new dialogue options, flashbacks which give a bit of depth to some of the playable characters, you can find other characters joining your party and branching stories which affect the way your characters like each other and ultimately, the game's ending. Kind of similar to the party interaction in Tales of Symphonia and Baldur's Gate. For some parts to remind me of BGII is a great feat, because its still one of my favourite games of all time. Its just something about the detailed world with the pre-rendered backgrounds and the characters in your party talking amongst each other, responding to the actions and choices you take. For example, say you ask someone to join your party, other people you had in your party might not necessarily agree with Claude (one of 2 protagonist's) choice and later down the line, from what I can tell, other party members will not be available to join you. For me, that is kind of dissapointing as I love getting different characters to join and ideally would have them all available on my team. However it does add some weight to your choices, making them feel that bit more real I guess. Also it could potentially add to the replayability factor of the game, but I'll see what I think of the game as I get further in.
Those are some impressions and ramblings on whatnot, think I said enough. 'Til next time =p

Pokemon..why won't you obey me?!
I've been playing Pokemon Platinum for quite a bit today since I got it the other day.
I decided before I got the game on a team that I would trade some of across from Diamond to help me through the game. I didn't expect to get so many problems with the pokemon not obeying me.
Here's my team at the moment, with 1 badge. White text is from Platinum, Silver is from my Diamond game ie. traded across
Grotle lv18
Sneasel lv15
Aerodactyl lv13
Meditite lv13
I had intended to include a Horsea and another, but I gave up on those, I'm gonna pick 2 more up as I go through the game.
Anyway, here is the problem I was mentioning before. Pokemon that are traded from another game benefit from receiving 1.5x the normal Exp from battles, however they don't always obey the new trainer if you dont have enough badges. So far I have 1 badge, but that doesnt seem to prevent any of my Diamond OT pokes from wacking off or whatever they do in battle, cos it sure aint fighting. My Grotle is lv18, a decent level for where I am in the game and obeys me no question, but the lower level traded pokemon don't! I guess I'm just getting frustrated, but its getting hard to level them when they keep passing their turns and dying.
End of passion play, crumbling away
I'm your source of self-destruction
Veins that pump with fear, sucking dark is clear
Leading on your deaths construction
Taste me you will see
More is all you need
Dedicated to
How I'm killing you
Come crawling faster
Obey your Master
Your life burns faster
Obey your Master
Master
Master of Puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Needlework the way, never you betray
Life of death becoming clearer
Pain monopoly, ritual misery
Chop your breakfast on a mirror
Taste me you will see
More is all you need
Dedicated to
How I'm killing you
Come crawling faster
Obey your Master
Your life burns faster
Obey your Master
Master
Master of Puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Master, Master, where's the dreams that I've been after?
Master, Master, you promised only lies
Laughter, Laughter, all I hear or see is laughter
Laughter, Laughter, laughing at my cries
Hell is worth all that, natural habitat
Just a rhyme without a reason
Neverending maze, drift on numbered days
now your life is out of season
I will occupy
I will help you die
I will run through you
Now I rule you too
Come crawling faster
Obey your Master
Your life burns faster
Obey your Master
Master
Master of Puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Come on, they gotta obey me after I post those awesome Metallica lyrics =p
Oh well, back to the grind. Maybe if I get some more badges it'll even out.
Bit of a random update.
I havent really updated with much interesting recently. Thought I'd post, even if it might not necessarily be interesting to you. But hell if it isn't interesting, people probably aren't reading so I don't see why I'm thinking into this too much.
Its starting to feel more like summer now, with the football leagues finished and the weather in the past few days improving insanely. Damn Rangers winning things this season...I don't think they deserved the league this year, but hell, I am biased. Plus Celtic dropped a stupid amount of points. actually...thats nothing to do with Rangers and probably one of the reasons they went on to win the league title. And although I hate to say it, Novo's goal in the cup final today was quite something.
I noticed that I've been overusing commas recently, don't know why... I can't remember the exact "ruling" for when to use commas, semi-colons, colons, dashes and as a result use some in the wrong situation. But OMG...I'm getting stupidly sidetracked again by minutae. I'm pretty sure people won't want to read about my grammatical errors.
I've finished my Black Mage 8-bit painting, I'll try upload it somewhere to the interwebz at some point soon hopefully. Also been trying to work on a new banner for the blog, the one you see now (Cloud) is the result, but it might get tweaked or changed because I'm not 100% satisfied with it yet.
I've been spending stupid amounts recently on games, I'll give you a roundup of what I bought in the past few months. Some of these I am very pleased with =D I'll also tally up the total price and most likely cry.
Star Ocean IV: The Last Hope Limited Collectors Ed. (X360) £49.99 Preorder from Amazon
Knights in the Nightmare (DS) £39.55 from Ebay (with Atlus Preorder Spoils only available in US) Spoils
Pokemon Platinum (DS) £28 from HMV
Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny (PS2) £11 from Amazon [complete with soundtrack]
Unlimited Saga (PS2) £5.50ish from Ebay [complete with FFX-2 prologue disc]
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP) £12 from Ebay
Riviera (PSP) £18 from Ebay
Total: over £160...
Some of those games are only getting rarer..yeah I'll keep telling myself that. T_T
Also, I've not paid for Star Ocean yet, as its not shipped: and I think its gone lower than 50 since I placed the preorder, so I only have to pay the lowest price its gone too.
Till next time ;D

I <3 the 80s.
Man, the 80s were an awesome time to grow up. Its funny looking back on those crazy fashions and trends (some of which have come back into fashion..dont ask me why) and thinking of how different life was back then. I still don't understand how sometimes people's hair just "looked" 70s or 80s even without being cut in one of those hilarious styles such as a mullet.
Video games back in the 80s were a different beast to the ones we have now, we had crazily hard platformers, arcade and sci-fi influenced side scrollers, role playing games based on D&D style rules and premises and loads of other stuff.
Take a look at this link for some hilarity from the 80s and early 90s. Wow, there are some awesomely bad boxes in there and there is 4 pages of the stuff! Its crazy to think they would be thought of as anything close to well-made video game boxes at the time. I'm actually almost left speechless by some of those random geometric shapes, neon-pastel colours, hairstyles and other crap in there. Hilarious, read the link XD. Ninja scooter simulator, Skateboard Joust...man I only vaguely remember the 80s, but man was it fricken GNARLY!
